METRIC BOTTOM TAPS
Metric bottom taps are used to cut threads in a hole that has already been partially threaded with a tapered tap. The tapered end of a bottoming tap is too short to start into an unthreaded hole, but the bottom tap has enough chamfer to start in the hole. Bottom taps are typically used as a secondary tap after the initial threads have been created using a Taper or Plug tap. They may be used in both blind or through hole tapping.
