Mechanics wire, also known as bailing wire or soft wire, is a zinc-plated steel wire that can be used for a variety of tasks. It's rust- and corrosion-resistant and can bend easily. Some uses for mechanics wire include: Binding hay and straw together, Securing cardboard, textiles, or other materials for storage and organization, Performing emergency automotive repairs, Hanging up parts to be painted in body shops, Hanging brake calipers, exhaust, and other items in mechanical shops. 18 gauge is good for body shops and 14 gauge wire is good for mechanical shops.
